I have a friend that took his X5 camping. He forgot his remote (dumba$$). Does anyone know if there is an app he can download to his phone (free).

Not that I am aware of. Even though the X5 is an "AndroidTV" device, I don't believe that it has the Android remote services running. And any 3rd party app (which not sure if there are any decent ones), would probably need you to install some service app on the box, so kind of defeats the purpose, since you can't install it, since you have no remote
Guess it'll be old fashion Camping with no TV. Or if he has an XC type sub, he can just download IPTV Smarters (free on both iphone and android) and use it on his phone.
There must be one on the playstore that can work. He will only know if he tries them or even a mouse app. Try it

I agree with the old fashioned statement!!!
So true.. I forgot about using mouseSuper simple, and even a cheap dollar store mouse will work.
But for "remote" apps for AndroidTV, I have tried piles of them in the past and none of them detect any of my buzz boxes as available (even on the newer boxes that are AndroidTV). Even tried directly pointing them to the IP (in case discovery was the issue), but no go. They all work fine with my old Mii Box which was running native AndroidTV 6 originally and now I think it is up to AndroidTV 9. Obviously as long as my phone and the box is on the same network.
Buddy of mine picked me up an onn box for $20 from walmart so curious to try it next week when I get it.
I thought when Buzz switched to AndroidTV 11 this would be available, but seems either it was stripped out, or using a slightly different variation. No biggie for me, since I rarely use it outside of just testing however anyhow.
