Always hardwired. I tried wifi just to see if there was a difference but was the same. Also I'm only a foot away from the modem.

I have Norton 360. I wanted to add the Buzz X5 so I could activate the VPN to see if that would help with the freezing but it says it's not compatible. Am I doing something wrong? If I can't is there another free VPN I can load to try out?

Nordvpn has a money back style free trial for 1 month.

I found a free VPN called Proton VPN. What I find now is half the channels don't freeze and others still do.

I wouldn't think that would be the issue only because the E5 I connected was brand new out of the box.

Fair assumption, but I I had one box (don't recall if it was my B5 or E5) that had strange glitching new out of box. After trying everything, I decided to do a reset (since I had not spent too much time customizing it anyhow). Don't know what it was, but something must have gotten latched during configuration and the reset happened to clear it. Not saying it is your issue, but if you are going to do a reset, the earlier, the better

ProtonVPN is not bad, but has much flexibility, and their free servers are typically above 80% workload, so they are great for browsing, but not always the best for streaming. You can also try windscribe VPN. They have a free tier which is 10GB per month (as long as you use your email to register - 2GB only if you don't want to use your email), and no payment info required. I know 10GB is not going to do wonders for streaming if you need it full time, but for testing it is a great option. And the 10GB allocation resets every month.

And for the Windscribe client for buzz box, I would recommend you download the one from their site that is for AndroidTV (ie: something like the nvidia Shield), the interface is way better that the generic android version you will get from aptoide store. It is designed for use with a remote, no need for mouse cursor control.

I did a factory reset, added the Proton VPN and now a lot of channels don't freeze but a lot that I first go to freezes about 2-5 times within the first minute then they stop freezing. Would the internet providers target single accounts? I only ask is I have other customers hat I supplied X5's and they are in the same town I'm in with the same internet provider and have no issues.

I really doubt that the isp would be targeting specific clients. Not saying impossible, but unlikely.
Are you wired or wireless ? If wireless, any possibility of trying wired ?

Are you using ISP modem/router, or do you have your own router behind the ISP modem ? If you have your own router behind ISP modem, you are sure you are not double-NAT ?

Are any of these "customers" close enough friends that they would allow you to go by with your box and try your box there ? Just throwing it out there That way you could at least try to eliminate a variable.

I would try a different modem/router than the New Ignite Gateway from Shaw/Rogers that you are currently using.
Did this freezing happen before you updated/upgraded to the Ignite Gateway from Shaw/Rogers.

Appreciate all the feedback. My internet sub is expiring soon. I'm currently with Shaw/Rogers and all in all have been happy. They have a bunch of packages on sale right now. Any suggestions on which one would suit my needs? They're packages have download speeds of 500mbps, 1gbps, 1.5gbps and 2gbps. I don't need overkill. My son games a lot, I personally use the internet for IPTV and my laptop. I'm thinking if I increase download speed maybe the freezing will stop.

Your other customers that don't have issues, are they using the same internet Equipment as you (router/modem etc.)

I presently have a 400mbit plan and I typically have 2 devices streaming, during the day I am on "teams" meetings most of the day when I work from home and both kids are either on zoom calls for lectures, or both gaming. Only time I have ever truly hit the limits is when both kids launch their steam engines on their PCs, and the damn thing starts to download 70GB "updates". But I have fixed that, but changing the settings and limiting the steam engine to 100mbps on each PC, so never taking up more than 50% of available bandwidth.

I think it is more critical to have a decent router and properly configured. In my case, I hated the all-in-one wifi/modem/router combo provided by my ISP, and I was lucky enough to have the option to disable the routing and wifi features and essentially put the unit into bridge mode. I have my own router (based on pfsense) and 2 dedicated wifi access points for my wifi to properly cover both floors. I used to have an ASUS router, which was great, but it was getting old and the home layout (due to cement walls) needed at least an extra wifi access point So at that point I decided to go with all separate devices. Nice part is that, because I have my own router and access points configured and the ISP device is only a basic modem (since it is bridged), even if I change ISP, I don't need to reconfigure anything on my internal network. All the rules, VLANS, dhcp lease reservations, etc. are not affected.

And when I had initially purchased my home (nearly 30yrs ago) I had ran 2x CAT5 ethernet cables (CAT 5e was not introduced yet) from the utility room.to each room. Even today it does not have any issue with gigabit network. I have replaced a small portions of it since I do have some 10GbE in my home office, but for the most part nearly everything is wired with CAT 5 and only phones, IoT devices, and tablets are WiFi.

So even at 500mbps, I do not think that is what will slow anything down or cause buffering. I know many who have WAY less than that, and no issues.
