    Default Restart in safe mode?

I just set a client up with this classic yesterday. All was fine and he called me today and can't get it fired up. Kept saying something about can't connect, so I told him to hold power button down and restart as I did a reset from the panel. When he hits the 'restart', he says it then pops up 'do you want to start in safe mode, all 3rd party apps won't work'
I have never seen that so I was wondering if there was some other button he may have hit. He said he unplugged it a few times as well. (older client, 80's). He likes to hit buttons and unplug it when not working but I told him not to keep doing that.....Any ideas why that pops up?
He does have connection as the time on the box is correct. Using OK3

Funny that you say that, since my mom manages to do the same when I ask her to reboot the machine (and I tried and could not reproduce). I know the elderly tend to press and long hold buttons. So I have given up, when I need her to reboot, I just tell her to pull the plug for 15 second, and then plug it back in. My mom does the same with a samsung tablet I have given her also, and she sometimes goes days in safe mode and she thinks nothing of it and live with the issues/limitations she encounters

Can't connect, could be an ISP blocking issue. To ensure proper connectivity, I typically ask my mom to go to youtube and try to play something. At least that way, I know the connection is there. The time is not an indication since it probably carries over due to internal bat, and only uses internet to "sync".

Every time I've had someone with an internet connection issue, the clock reverts back to 12:00 and starts there.
I get it with the elderly hitting buttons, unplugging stuff but how did it go into safe mode and how do I get it back into normal without having to drive back over there? I didn't even know these boxes have safe mode...lol.
We both have the same isp provider and it was working fine yesterday. Our isp has never had a blocking issue....knock on wood.

And clear cache on the 'BuzzTV OTA' or 'Buzz TV 5' one? Every single app has the option to clear cache. Is there not one 'clear cache' that does them all?

When I have had a box in safe mode a reboot usually fixes it

But when he holds down the power button for the 'restart' or 'power off' option comes up, he hits 'restart' and thats when it says:
'do you want to start in safe mode, all 3rd party apps won't work'
Should I try to have him restart from the options menu? Just want to look at all options before calling him and trying all this.
Worst case, can I just have him 'factory reset' and just add the server back in. I can follow him along on my box as well.

Same here for mom, but if I hear she is frustrated, I just have her unplug the box and plug it back and it works also.

Another thing you can try is from Home screen, go to Settings->Device Preferences, and I believe the last option is "Restart". That should do a normal restart and come back without safe mode. If for some bizarre reason his asks if he wants to reboot in safe mode, he should reply NO and it should proceed to normal restart.

And now he can't even get to the home screen. No matter what he does, it tries to load portal and can't and sits there. I had him hit the blue house 'home button' and it does nothing. Every time he tried to reboot from the remote, it says something about restarting in safe mode.
If he ended up unplugging it while it may have been updating, will it now need a hard factory reset?

I ended up going there and everything that I told him to try worked when I got there. Factory reset with the side button and all good.
Gotta love seniors with new technology....lol.
