XRS 4500 Catchup & Timeshift

Very rarely works on both my 4900 boxes ever since the last update. And I tried on my X5 earlier this week,. and rarely works either.

I only have wicked that has catchup so I can't compare on other servers however.

However I don't know if the issue is the boxes (X5 was hard reset recently), or server. I used to be able to at least use the wicked apk (the smarters version) even after the last update, and it used to usually play, but even that does not work any more (which is why I was wondering if it was server). I tried as recently as last night around midnight, and both BuzzTV on 4900 and wicked apk both did not play. I typically use it on the 2 CBS catchup channels, abc locals, and City TV (Montreal and Toronto).

I ran out of ideas.

went back to 2:30pm and after a minute it started showing mad about you

I have not tried MAC.. Maybe I'll try that tomorrow. I'm always using XC on wicked.

And I have waited for well over 2 minutes.. And panel does show mpegts_arc and I can see it, but nothing streaming on box. Last night I tried on CBS to go back and catch Late night with Stephen Colbert after it aired, and waiting 2 or 3 minutes, and nothing. Tried switching to the wicked APK, and still nada. Even tried switch player on the wicked APK, stream type, and even switched from h.w to sw decoding just to see if something was holding it up, but nothing worked. I then tried ABC catchup for Jimmy Kimmel Live. Same result.

I don't know. Maybe I need to find another server that has catchup, to try it out on another server just to compare.

now I just tried server using XC API and no issue playing catchup. it was not instant because this server was slightly slow to response so it took around 3 seconds to play.

Thanks.. But something is strange.. I just tried it on my E2.. Went to CHCH (to use one confirmed working) and chose 2:30 to 3 for mad about you, and 3 minutes in and nothing.

I'll try a few more things tomorrow. I'll try changing stream types, reboot my modem/router, VPN on/off (even though no issues with live tv or vod). My other boxes are wired, the E2 is Wireless, so no difference there.

I know and that is what I typically have all my boxes set to (not even automatic). But when things stopped working, I started to experiment with different settings.
But even if I have it set to HLS, when you try to go to catchup, for some reason, even though previously it would show hls_arc on the panel, now I see mpegts_arc. So either something changed with wicked, or something changed in the catchup API with 946 (release notes say "Added New Catch-up API to XC Login Servers").

I'll reset my classic tomorrow and start from scratch. It is very odd. When I plugged in my E5 a few days ago (which I had not used in a while), it was using .938, and I went straight in to test catchup and all seemed to work with 2 channels I tested. Then when it took the update less than a minute later and I went back to try again, it no longer worked

Trying to make sense of the various tests and every time I think I have figured out the issue, there is a twist that throws the whole theory out the window

just went back 3 hours on a&e and stream format changed to mpegts_arc and took about a minute to play

Guess I'll have to run a few more scenarios to see what is causing it. It all used to work, so it is very strange.

do you have force usb ts turned on?

Yep I’ve tried on off , different storage devices. Nadda.

Last night I factory reset the box and afterward it came up on v766. I loaded the wicked string and catchup worked, I was in the midst of trying timeshift when the box went into auto update and went to v946. After that timeshift did not work. And of course neither did catchup.

I think your on the right path with the v946 notes about “ Added New Catch-up API to XC Login Servers.

That could be it.

It’d be great to hear from more people using 4500’s to get a better picture of what the source of the problem is.

I seems if the x5 works then we can eliminate the server from being the possible problems.

I think I figured it out
open your panel and see how many live connections show for the catchup channel when you try it
