Quick review of the issue I’m chasing, I’m really going after catch up
The server I’m Using wikd, or pny.
On a catch-up channelusing storage for timeshift selected off. Primary player. HLS.
Timeshift doesn’t work.
Catchup doesn’t work.
On a non-catch up chwith same settings.
No catch-up available… so obviously it doesn’t work.
Timeshift ( small blue time-shift symbol on info screen) Timeshift works as it should and allows me to go back to the point where the channel was tuned in. Plays right away. All ok.
If these results match yours then I’m not sure there will be a benefit to loading the update from USB file.
Recall that when the box is factory reset and it first comes up, it on an earlier sw version. All functions work as they should. Once the box updates to 946, It’s back to broken.
This finding leads me to believe that whatever change in the 946 was introduced. It is causing the catchup not to work on a catchup channel.
Very appreciative of the time and effort anyone here or behind the scene is putting into this.

Yes & No..
If the servers catchup is working, then it looks like the player will select a previous point in time ( requested by the user) and the server plays it back from that point for them. No forced usb TS required. Wicked server previously worked like this on buzz.
Also,
If you selected forced usb TS storage then you could only go back in time as far as the unit has been on that channel. You couldn’t change to a catchup channel and immediately go back further that what the usb has recorded.
In the simplest terms, It looks as though using force usb TS just by passes the servers catchup feature, but you will be limited to only going back as far as you’ve been on that ch.

Can you go to a ch with catchup and then go back 30 mins.or 45 mins and hit play and have it play from that point? If it works for you pls let us know. Settings?
A few people have theorized that the server is experiencing catchup issues. That may be true, however when I repeat the test using tivimate, or sparkle tv app. Loaded on the same buzz unit It (catchup) works. Timeshift on catchup ch works.
Not to forget.. If the unit is factory reset, It (buzz4500) works until it updates. This really proves that the servers catchup is working properly.
Trying to eliminate the need for external apps.

timeshift only goes as far back as when you started watching the channel
catchup goes back as far as what is stored on server

When Using “ the force usb TS “ setting works as it should. I don’t think there has been any doubt about its function.
The problem seems to be in the buzztv trying to play catchup.
Do any of your units using B5 player run the catchup feature properly?

Without any timeshift stuff (I don't use timeshift), you can go back on the program you are watching. At least on the 4900 (which I used the most), I used to have to do a little jumping through hoops, but it worked. When watching something on liveTV, I would try to rewind, but it would not imemdiately. But if you press PAUSE, try to REW, and then unPAUSE, then try to REW, it would requind and you could go all the way back to the beginning of the show you were watching. Minor glitch. but eventually developped muscle memory for itREW, PAUSE, REW, UNPAUSE, and then REW and you can go where you want. Release the REW and in about 20 seconds or so (like other catchup), it plays from where you released the REW.
Today I did some testing on the X5 SS, and even though catchup is not perfect, it does actually work.
I found a bug which I will report later this weekend after a little more testing. Hitting Pause on the remote while watching catchup, starts the segment from the beginning.
For both of my 4900 boxes, catchup has been on and off lately. so I think I may be due for a hard reset.

I see the same behaviour.
Wrt to the skipping back to the begining comment
The xrs4500 is doing it also. It just doesn’t play.
Since the last post, I’ve been advised that wicked catchup is currently down. So I guess it’s not there to test this with at the moment.

Is working with buzz & tivimate as I write this, however I am seeing some freezing going on.
The pause play rewind on a currently airing program doesn’t work using buzz, but if I go back a few hours then it tries to work
( with freezing)
Tivimate doesn’t have timeshift to repeat the same with currently airing programming. It only does catchup on previously aired programming.

yes w... catchup does seem to be down now (was up earlier today when I did some testing).
The pause play rewind on a currently airing program is a little bit of a mixed bag. Technically that is "timeshift", but obviously timeshift is limited to the period that you have been watching. And if you have timeshift enabled, and "the force usb TS" then you are limited to this recorded section. If you don't have timeshift enabled (which I don't) then it switches to catchup (obviously on channels with catch-up) and you can REW the channel you are watching. It is slow, and sometimes needs a little fussing (like procedure I mentioned previously) but it works for the most part. And I was surprised when I had figured out that you can scroll back on sections of a currently airing stream. I always thought you had to wait for program to finish to be able to play it back from catchup, but that is NOT the case.
I don't have ...pony, so I can't comment on how it works on that server.

It must have just come back up. Maybe a quick server reboot or something. When I tried it just before posting, it was down completely, and did try a few channels. And I know it was up earlier today, since I did some testing on the X5 SS with it.
Just tried it now, and it is working fine again.
