    Default Loretta Swit=Hot Lips

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Emmy-winning actress Loretta Swit, who died at the age of 87 in her New York City home on Friday, May 30, 2025. Best known for her iconic role as Major Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan on the groundbreaking television series MASH*, Swit's portrayal left an indelible mark on American television.

Swit was discovered in her apartment around 10 a.m. by her maid and was pronounced dead at noon. While the official cause of death has not been confirmed, authorities believe she died of natural causes.

Born Loretta Jane Szwed on November 4, 1937, in Passaic, New Jersey, Swit began performing on stage at the age of seven. She trained as a singer at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and went on to have a prolific career in theater and television.

Swit appeared in over 250 episodes of MASH* during its 11-year run from 1972 to 1983. Her performance earned her ten Emmy nominations, with wins in 1980 and 1982. She was instrumental in transforming the character of Major Houlihan from a one-dimensional caricature into a complex, multidimensional woman, reflecting broader feminist developments of the 1970s.
