8888 on display

back in the day,s of the WF..this seemed to be a common issue on some stb,s ,,an stb that appears dead when powered up..wait for it ..then 8888 will appear in the display....the stb is an UL and I guess i,m getting old i can,t remember how to fix this ...I have tried to use the Null cable and loader... but to no avail...open to all or any ideas and suggestion...short of shooting the Damn thing...LoL..thanx all

friend have you tried downloading the factory file for that receiver....
