XRS 4500 Catchup & Timeshift

I think I figured it out
open your panel and see how many live connections show for the catchup channel when you try it

So what is the theory ?

I just checked and I get 1 live HLS connection when watching.. Then I try to bring up catchup, and I see one mpegts_arc get launched. Which is fine, not more than my 2 max connections. If I leave it trying to play the catchup, eventually the hls connection closes, so then I just have the one mpegts_arc connection, and after some time, it closes (goes red) and it opens a new connection.
So after a while, there is only a single green connection for the catchup and that's it.

Last night, on my 4900, I switch from "fast login" to "default". Then switched from Automatic stream, to force HLS/M3U8. And went into settings and cleared cache. And last night, on my 4900, I managed to get get catchup working. And it worked all night. OK, navigating (FWD/REW) was pretty slow to respond compared to old time, but that may be server. And I thought, cool, it is just the fast login/default login option..
Tried to make the same changes today on my Classic, and can't get it to work

Now I created a MAC account for my Classic. But for some reason, I get no EPG
I tried using all variations or URL, h t tp://portal/c h t t p:/portal/stalker_portal/c h t t p://portal:2xxx/stalker_portal/c
Tried clearing EPG to force a refresh and always comes back with "no information"
Am I missing something ? I rarely use MAC with wicked.

I find that there is still only one "green", the others are all red (connection killed). So it effectively tries to connect 4 times before it finally gets the stream going.

No time today, and tomorrow I'm at the office. But i will try on Friday with a 4 connection account.

But I don't get why my MAC account on wicked has no EPG And I've tried all permutations of the portal URL that can think of.
Says loading, then "No information. Did a clear cache, even Clear EPG a few times between URL changes, but no difference..

If someone has MAC on wicked, can you CLEAR EPG and see if it repopulates ?

OK.. Just did a hard reset on my Classic, since it refused to do catchup (yes it was bugging me).

It reverted to 5.0.940 after the reset

Created my XC server profile for wicked, and quickly logged in. Tried 2 canadian City TV (MTL/TOR) channels, and 2 CBS channels and Catchup works perfectly and starts up within 3 to 5 secs max. Even quick FWD/RWD were instantaneous (when they did not freeze). It did happen on occasion that FWD/RWD will freeze the stream and will not recover and comes back with a "media not supported message" sometimes. But I can live with that.

When I check my panel, it shows hls_arc as it did previously Don't now why it was switched to mpegts_arc at one point.

Logged off and back again and worked the same.

Tried taking updates from menu->settings->check updates and it tells me "no updates available". Power cycled and still nothing. Maybe needs some time or update server is offline for now. I'll leave it on to see if it get the .946 update

Guess will see when it updates to .946 if it will behave the same. Guess I'll find out on Friday. But for now, it works like a charm. Hmm...

Very interesting observation,

I was trying different servers on the 4500 last night and also pulled out the x?3000 @ sw352. Can somebody tell me if that is the latest sw the 3000 had? It didn’t run TS or catchup. It tried to do catchup and on some chs it would begin and play but if you tried to fwd or back it would go back to the start of the program.

In trouble shooting with the 4500, I had some success with different servers doing time shift, but wicked would not work.
After going back to trying wicked, the box was somewhat messed up. It would play live tv for a few seconds hang then after a few seconds repeat abit further then hang and then go back, repeat and move ahead by a few seconds each time. Rebooted cleared caches, changed players and every combo to get it go on wicked but it wouldn’t stop repeating and freezing. Then I noticed that in the account settings it was showing 4 out of 4 active connections. Problem was I was the only one using wicked. I pinged my dealer and asked what he saw and he said there was only one connection showing on his end. To be safe, we switched login info, and I tried again. It still showed 4 active users on my end. It still kept skipping & freezing using live tv with wicked. If I switched to a different server live tv played with no problems and TS worked on channels that didn’t have catchup. If I tried on channels that had catchup the buzz unit would stop freeze up and not play. I did let it try for up to +4 mins. But no go.
Kinda came to conclusion that I’ll have to factory reset it again and see what happens.

I’m interested to see how many active connections it shows before trying catchup vrs after trying catchup.


****Update****

Factory reset the 4500 loaded wicked , the box updated to 946. Added storage, formatted and setup as internal storage.

Live tv works normal. When I try to use catchup or time shift the program time-string comes up and the little timer shows that it goes back in time. Then when you try to play the box just hangs. After a few mins it pops over to live tv.
A quick check on the active users shows 6 out of 4. I’m the only one on it. I believe the player is over loading to server somehow and causing it to freeze. I dunno. A ghost in the machine.

Does anyone know if that will be sent to xrs4500 ‘s

I’d like to see a fix for the v946 that doesn’t allow timeshift (TS) or catchup to work . It’s been awhile since it last worked on the old 4500.

I pulled out my 4500 and tested catchup on 2 servers, wkd and one of wedalens
At first I tried catchup as it was on937 and no issues
The box updated and I repeated the tests and except for one or two streams on wedalens catchup worked fine. Also worked fine on wkd
You mentioned doing a reset
Was it a pin reset?

Yes it was with a toothpick in the hole reset. Box comes up on previous software and is completely wiped clean.

That looks like a great place to start. I’ll definitely try loading from usb.

How do you have your storage configured for recording, time shift and catchup? Is it internal storage, or external storage?

I don't use timeshift and for testing I am just using internal
