Question Time Shift causes instant buffering

Also, Catch-Up doesn’t work without “nursing it”. Thought update would fix but didn’t. This is just my problem right? X5 & U5, been like this for 6+ months

I’m not complaining, eh? Just curious if there is a solution?

OK, for timeshift, there are a few little things.

First, in my experience, Timeshift will glitch if you have "real time streaming" or "tunneled playback" enabled. Start by disabling those. That is just my experience.

Also, you need to make sure the media you are using (USB key) for timeshift, is of decent quality. Just because a stick can be formatted and you can read/write stuff to it, does NOT mean it can sustain any decent steady write speed. And I strongly recommend NOT using the internal storage for timeshift. It puts unnecessary wear and tear on the onboard storage, and it will eat up the storage pretty quick. On my older 4900 I was using an SSD drive which I thought was the best option, and then one day suddenly it started glitching. Swapped out the SSD and everything worked fine (SSD was pretty much dead - it happens).

For Catchup, I'll give you that. Catchup has been on/off on all my boxes. I reset them, they work fine for a while and then shortly after it is no longer predictable. BUT, the issue is not just the buzz box. It is a combination of things including the wicked server. I watch catchup often, but when I want to watch something on catchup I typically launch one of the 2 original wicked APK (the smarters rebrand, or the xciptv version). They seem to work better when the server is not acting up. But it does happen about twice a week, that at least after midnight, the catchup servers are not responding. And even when they are working, don't try to navigate (FWD/RWD), it can often hang the stream and you are forced to start from the beginning. And that for sure is not the buzz box, since the buzz software is out of the equation.

I've had tried for weeks to identify the absolute cause for catchup sometimes playing and sometimes not, but every time I think I have narrowed it down to software vs server, there is a twist to the testing results which kind of always throws whatever theory I had, out the window

I don't have any other server with catchup, so hard to compare/test on that front.

I've learned to accept it for now, and when I am feeling a little better and have some time, I'll try a bit more testing with a broader selection of boxes and software.

    OK..you are right..
It doesn't eat up storage in the permanent sense (since it cleans up every time you change channel anyhow), but it does constantly write to storage as you watch which makes no sense to your the internal storage for anything other than testing. I'd rather put wear and tear on a disposable usb stick than on the boxes onboard storage.
If you are low on storage on the box (depending how people use their box), it could be an issue.
