as long as you set correct box time/date you leave epg offset at current time

I have not had to play with any offsets in at least a year on my buzz boxes.

Overall things are quite stable. But during the day I did notice a few channels having issues. By no means is it critical, but here are a few. Only pointing them out in case they help identifying issues with particular server sources.

CA: Discovery Science (seems to play fine for about 20 seconds, then hangs). cycle channel and it plays for another 20 seconds and hangs again :)
FRCAN: LCN (same issue - tried with both players on my X5, 4900 and E2)
CA: CTV Scifi is choppy.

CA: CTV Vancouver is actually streaming CA: CBC Vancouver :)

And one that was fixed before the crash (but obviously not saved), CA: Global Montreal is streaming Gloabal News montreal.



CA: CBC and CA: CBC Montreal, are streaming the CA: CBC News Network stream.

Also, since I was bouncing from machine to machine, I did notice a few times that I got a portal error (did not respond). Just tried again and it works I assume this is still being worked on.

But overall, things are definitely improving. Thanks for the long hard work.

That would explain why on my E2 I saw the seasons (since I had nothing tagged as favorites and did a search). On my 4900 I did not see the seasons, since I had them pinned as favorites. I should have known to watch out for "favorites" due to changed references :)

Anyhow, I'm sure eventually things will be stable again. takes time to tweak it to perfection.

I had to switch off from Wicked for now, too unstable regardless of VPN endpoint for me personally. but just a FYI you can find it in UK section on BT SPORT 1 as well. I didn't even know beIn showed it, I thought it was BT only

A few minor issues remaining that I noticed. Not urgent obviously.

CA: CBC Vancouver audio/video is way out of sync (about 15 seconds)
CA: CTV Vancouver is presently streaming the out of sync CA: CBC Vancouver
CA: CBC Montreal, is streaming the CA: CBC (News Network) stream

And the usual :) CA: Global Montreal, which is still streaming the Global Montreal News network feed.

i just found a massive flaw in this software for streams cretin channels that have more then one spot for same channel will run much better soon as I can get the dev to fix it
also why ufc did not run well on normal ppv channels

Has “catchup” been fully restored yet?

In the Premium movies category I can see it’s replay icon in the EPG, but when I select one I get an error message: “stream not supported”, using primary or secondary video player option btw.

So not sure if it’s my buzz XRS4500 running v5.0 software or if it’s a server issue. I use username login method.

The last update we heard about “catchup” was about two weeks ago, had mentioned it might be restored later after all other upgrades completed.

Interesting observation:

The PlutoTV channels only work if I use “secondary” video player on my buzz 4500/5.0

When I was running buzz 4.0 software PlutoTV channels all worked with both primary/secondary video players, not sure these issues are related to “catch-up”

Catchup is still a work in progress I am sure. Mid week I tried it with the latest wicked APK (since I was trying out the APK), and it was working for the few channels I tested on. Just went downstairs to check it again on the same box and it is not working (buzz or official latest apk). For now, I guess they are concentrating on keeping the rest stable.

For Pluto channels, it has been like that for over a year (since buzztv 5 was released). It is video player dependant unfortunately. Something in the stream that the Primary player does not like/recognize. When streaming directly the "Pluto" streams, both Primary and Secondary players work fine, so probably something to do with the source server and/or the re-encoding. But this is not something new, this has been like that since the beginning.


PS: CA: COOKING CHANNEL for the last few days seems to hang after about 15 to 30 seconds (no matter what box or app I use)

go to catch up in apk and youu will see the category and channels available

Normally “catchup” was built into BuzzTV simple guide under v4.0 and I assume v5.0 software, but after these recent server updates
all I get is “media format is not supported” error, suggesting I’m missing a critical APK file on my box.

If I understand correctly “catch-up” only works now as an add on APK file that I need to install on my BuzzTV XRS4500

Do I understand this correctly and if so is it a file that can be shared here?

I’ll keep searching for it and more information on this APK subject and possible solve the issue myself, but I’m curious why I didn’t need it before…?��

I spoke with the developer of buzz TV v5.0 and it was in beta for over a year because of numerous bug issues and only in the last six months (I think last September 2022) was when it was finalized. It has a tendency to crash more frequently when running Android v9.0. It’s much more stable under Android 11.

Incidentally, it will no longer allow an XRS4500 to update automatically to v5.0 thru the stream unless you first request it from the BuzzTV developer in Las Vegas directly by sending them your MAC address. They rather you use older v4.0 or buy a newer box that runs Android 11 natively like the recently released HD5 dongle or The Classic buzz boxes which is essentially a clone of the XRS4500 with some better options.

V5.0 still has several known bugs and is considered less stable than older BuzzTV v4.0 and has particularly poor power management of its blue tooth speaker accessories, which is why you may have noticed that your blue tooth speakers will need to be by PAIRED again after you unplug the power to an XRS4500 or it freeze or crash the box at boot up. This was not a problem with v4.0.

Incidentally I tried that new server URL (ie the APK server) using both ports 25461 and 2086 (with and without /c) and it won’t connect it just hangs at login attempt: “checking portal” than times out after a minute..
“Can not load portal: failed to connect to new APK.wickediptv.cuz/70.39.xx.xxx (port 2086) from /192.168.x.xxx (port 60392) after 10000ms”

I believe this means NOT ALL user name/password accounts will be able to login to the new APK server url

So unless I typed URL in wrong or are using the wrong port #, I’m unable to properly confirm or test the new “catch-up” category that was mentioned today exists now.

Any suggestions please?

Guess it must have been a temporary glitch when I checked earlier today. Tried it again about 2 hours ago and it works fine in the apk.

On BuzzTV 5 when you try to play anything catchup, it gives you a "Media not supported" message. If I select the catchup and then click to "download" it, it does, but then going into "downloads catchup" and trying to play it, it also gives the same error.

Just out of curiosity, I tried using the catchup on my old E1 (still running on BuzzTV 4), since many think it is because of BuzzTV 5. Guess what, EXACT same message. So there is something in the catchup stream format that both BuzzTV 4 and 5, do not seem to like.

Yes I rebooted the XRS4500 after switching Stream Formats and even options for video players.

And the built in “catch up” feature under BuzzTV 5.0 still does not work. It makes no difference.

Also, I just installed that 3rd party proprietary WickedTV app 3.1.5.1v2 APK that is NOT the “catch up” feature I’m inquiring about. That’s a nice utility for a smart phone maybe, but BuzzTV 5.0 is vastly superior, better picture and color quality and dramatically faster at scrolling. I did some serious testing to compare the two and its no contest IMHO.

However, this private WickedTV APK does have 288 listed live channels and they work under the “catch-up” feature, but this is NOT what I’ve been inquiring about. It’s very slow on my very fast XRS 4500 btw and scrolls slowly too and color and resolution seems lower than the live broadcast I saw an hour earlier on TCM for example.

Under Android 11, I suspect this private WickedTV APK v3.1.5.1v2 will work better but the XRS4500 is probably too slow to run it natively since this box will never run Android 11.

The WickedTV app is justa customized version of OPTV smarters.
You can download IPTV Smarters directly from their web site (which redirects you to the apple app store - search for "Smarters Player Lite" in the app store). I have many customers using it for many different services, on their AppleTV boxes, and iPads at least, so I am pretty sure it would work fine on iPhone devices also.

It is a combination of issues.

Seems like the Catchup on wicked is encoded in a way that the media players used internally by BuzzTV don't seem to like it.

So there is 2 possibilities here:
1> Buzz can try to identify what it is in the stream that is causing the media player to "choke", and update their media player to support this format. nobodyspecial already said he will let buzz know. They are usually pretty good at finding fixes or workarounds. It's just one more "exceptional case". Or other possibility is that buzz can add an option to select a custom media player for catchup (different than that used fro LiveTV - similar to what they have done for VOD/TV Series). That way, in cases like this, you could just load another media player (mx player, newer version of VLC, Titan player, etc..) and find whatever works for you.

OR

2> wicked can look into possibly changing the encoding on the catchup streams, to be something that buzz boxes would not choke on.

Keep in mind that on of the 2 internal video players on BuzzTV 5 is VLC. Not sure if it is the Primary or secondary however.

Thanks.. I don't have a 4000, but I tried on an xrs4500, xrs4900 and E2, all running the same buzz 5.0.796 and all give me a "media format is not supported" error. Same with X5 (x5 running 5.0.775). Also tried on my E1 (running 4.0.489).

Tried changing stream types to/from TS /M3U/HLS and made no difference. Also tried changing media players to/from Primary and Backup. No difference :(

Before the server change it worked on all boxes. Like you said, it used to take a minute to start (and sometimes you could not skip fwd or back during playback on some streams), but it worked for the most part.

Guess we'll see what Buzz says. Thnx

x5 is trying to pull in hls no matter what i try in xcapi mode so i can see why it wont play the .ts catchup

in mac live tc it pulls mpgets for live stream and when i try catchup it tries to pull hls_arc format

No issues with EPG on my 4900 (xc api connection). At least all the channels in my favorites category (mix of Canadian and US channels) are pretty much fully populated.

One thing I noticed (unrelated to EPG), is that the CA: COOKING CHANNEL, is actually streaming US: COOKING CHANNEL :) But considering the freezing issue with the CA: COOKING CHANNEL in recent days, I assume this is temporary till the source is fixed (or reason identified).

Thanks sat for switching the CA: COOKING CHANNEL stream back to the Canadian one. However I don't know if you tried watching it for a few seconds. It pretty much lasts for about 30 seconds max before it freezes :( And as expected, if you stay on the channel as it freezes and eventually stutters, the number of "active" connections climbs :)

Late last night, CA: Discovery Science was doing the same, but this morning seems to be fine.

When you are at work, don't worry about it to much. These things are not super urgent.. When I work from home, a few days a week, I just keep this streaming on 1 of my 4 screens :) I just need to remember to turn down the volume when someone calls me on teams :)

Equally affects all methods: APK WickedTV, Smarters player for iPhone, and buzz 5.0.799 too

No changes to stream format (HLS or TS) or EPG time shift offset help,

Well, on my 4500, I do have similar offset issues. Live TV is perfect. EPG dead on, and offset is set to "current time".

But for catchup, there is still a few issue.

Example:
Channel "CA: COTTAGE LIFE TV"
According to EPG, earlier today between 10am and 11am, it was playing Holmes on Homes. However either in EPG matrix view, or single channel EPG view, I select "Holmes on homes", it does not play that. If I Go even further back to 3am-4am, it says it should be playing "What on Earth", yet, it actually plays "Holmes on homes". :)

Only reason I chose that, is that Mike Holmes is easy to recognize :)

City TV Montreal and Toronto, even though they show as Catchup, I can't seem to get them working. Live TV is fine. Previous to current program it was playing "2 Broke Girls" and before that "Hudson and Rex", and if I select either one or the other, I don't get an error, but it just stalls.

Anyhow, I don't use it much, so I don't play with it too much, but just saying.

They do take a bit to start sometimes (at least on my 4900 w/xc api), but last week, sat did mention "we looking into why the start lag".

But once they are started, they work perfectly fine as you mentioned. No errors/issues ffwd/rwd, etc..

I think they fixed today the 7 hour EPG lag on the 293 “catch-up” channels. All of them work perfect now thank you sat9182.

I missed “catchup” because it’s a terrific option for missed live sporting events and national network news broadcasts…

Tested on my 4500 using buzz 5.0.799 software and Wicked APK
